Forks On – Now What Front Wheel?

Another step forward in the NX650-R build: the new front end is on. Forks, front wheel, and brake setup from a 2007 CRF450 are now mounted, and the bike is finally starting to take on the stance I’ve been chasing.
Since the setup came complete from the same donor, most things fell into place without too much headache. That said, one thing I do need to figure out is the steering stop. The CRF triple clamp doesn’t align with the NX’s original frame stops, so I’ll need to fabricate something that limits the range cleanly without messing up the frame or compromising the turning radius too much. Just one of those details that comes with mixing platforms.
Now the big question is—what front wheel size do I go with?
Do I match the Rally bike with a 19” for that balanced all-rounder look and feel? Or do I go full street and drop down to a 17” for a more compact, supermoto-style setup?
The 19” keeps it practical and still gravel-capable, but a 17” would give the bike a lower stance and a sharper attitude on the road. Both have their appeal. I’m still going back and forth depending on the mood and what kind of riding I imagine this thing ending up doing most.
Either way, progress feels good.
